Policy Statements

When is stem cell transplantation indicated? ASBMT's executive committee approves sponsors evidence-based reviews of scientific and medical literature to answer that question and improve patient care. These reviews are guided by a panel of transplant specialists, disease-specific experts, third-party payers and patient advocates, and serve to:

  • Help doctors and patients make treatment decisions
  • Provide support for broader and more consistent coverage from insurance companies
  • Identify areas where more research is needed

ASBMT's executive committee-approved statements also provide expert guidance on topics such as medical tourism and the collection and preservation of cord blood for personal use.
